This is a genuine Brit/German package holiday hotel and attracts a certain type of tourist that need no further explanation. But in many respects the whole town of Albufeira is a hotbed of chaviness surpassed nowhere else on the Algarve coast. Do yourself a favor and go to Lagos, Sagres or somewhere out of the town centre. The whole central area epitomizes everything that is disgusting about western tourists completely crushing the cultural beauty of other countries. Lifts down to the beach, giant engined boats constantly roaring past, planes flying past with advertising banners and the sea awash with jetskis and parasailing. Complete destruction of a beautiful coastline and culture. Epic holiday fail. I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who thinks this is a nice beach holiday experience. This place is one giant facepalm. Google it!
The Rocamar is a lovely, modern (but not too much!), trendy hotel. The view from our room was fantastic, completely untainted view of the sea and we didn't feel we had to pay extra to equal the quality of same. The main advantage of the hotel is the location, having been to Albuferia many times before I have never stayed so close to Fisherman's beach and the Square in the old town - no more than a leisurely 5-7 min walk. The breakfasts were adequate (but need more fruit options) and we ate lunch in the hotel once which was also very nice and reasonably priced. The pool area is the winning factor for the hotel, however the pool is small and shallow so won't be appealing to swimmers - but for people who enjoy a dip to cool down and a fantastic view from same it is perfect. I would most certainly stay in the Rocamar again.
Overall we had a great stay and without wishing to take away from that, the location and the pool etc there are a few small things....The pool area - Sunlongers etc are all to a very high standard but there is not enough of same and the sun is only on four of the loungers for the full day - the rest only have sun in the morning. The rooms - the balconies are very small and lack the luxury of the rest of the hotel. The same could be said of the bathrooms and look of the room. While it was nice to see colour in the room (each had a feature wall, rather than the usual white walls) simple things could bring the rooms in line with the rest of the hotel i.e. actual double beds rather than two singles whose footing meant they slide apart too easily, and small things such as a small fridge, glasses, more light in the bathroom. The hotels booklet in the room also stated that they offered a complementary mini bus service to the airport which was worded in such a way that seemed it was free, it was not - it was €35 which a taxi man offered us as a price for the same journey. Also they charged us 0.50c to ring a taxi one night and Wi-Fi was the most expensive I have found in a hotel. This may sound petty but the Rocamar room rates are not cheap enough to warrant these high prices and as such can be offputting.
Great location only 5 minutes from the main town and literally right on the beach. Rooms are clean and the hotel has a modern feeling.
2 things. The staff were extremely unhelpful and seemed disinterested about us and anything we asked. A number of other guests we talked to said the same. The other issue is that we booked a double room and got 2 single beds pushed together, which we asked to change rooms as this made it uncomfortable. We were told there were only a small number of rooms with double beds in the hotel and we couldnt change or get what we asked for (in the usual blunt speak from staff). If you want a romantic holiday I would suggest making sure you get what you booked before you get there.
Front desk and room staff were very helpful. Location to the beach and the town square are good.
Breakfast food and manager average.
we had a wonderful experience at the rocamar hotel. the location was superb and the room was excellent value for money. we had a room at the back of the building but had a pation with sunloungers which was a nice extra. could not fault anything at all and will definately recommend to others and will go back there again.
Excellent location on cliffs overlooking the beach and the sea. Easy access to both the town center and the beach.
The best thing about the Rocamar was it's fantastic location, directly above the beach. We had fabulous views of the beach from our balcony and from the hotel bar and to get down to the beach itself took less than 5 minutes - either by gently sloping path, steps or lift. The hotel was spotlessly clean and seemed newly refurbished, all the staff we met were very efficient and polite and our room was lovely, spacious and had everything we needed. The breakfast buffet successfully catered to all tastes with British and German/Dutch style buffet choices available. In the evenings, again the location was brilliant with nice restaurants and bars just around the corner although the hotel was in a quiet street. Can't recommend it highly enough.
The only thing that marred our otherwise perfect stay was that our room was directly underneath the swimming pool and there was quite a lot of noise generated by the sun loungers being blown around by the wind during the night. We reported this when we checked out (we were only there for the weekend and our room was lovely otherwise) and the receptionist told us that the hotel were aware of it and were taking steps to store the furniture at night and resolve the problem. There was nothing else we didn't like!
I was very very disappointed with the size of the room, especially the bathroom which amounted to nothing more then a broom cupboard with a very small shower cubicle and very very little room for using the facilities in the bathroom - the bathroom door did not open fully but hit the toilet first - the sink was just about big enough to brush your teeth. The public and communial areas were really nice and the food was very good. The pool area again was clean but not many sun beds and the bar was not manned when times indicated it would be. The location is good and views excellent but when you pay for an executive room - you expect a lot better facilities in the room. I intend to write a letter of complaint regarding the booking for executive room when the only difference was a sea view - whilst nice not worth the extra cost ax the room facilities were the same
The hotel is nice clean tidy and in an excellant position, I would not hesitate to stay again.
It would feel nice to be welcomed to breakfast whatever time you reach the restaurant, during the last half hour food options, glasses and condiments were not replaced. If you asked for anything the staff reluctantly obliged.
Poor breakfasts, no tea coffee facilities in room and was unable to get coffee after 11.00pm Staff were not helpful
Clean comfortable nice resort close to most amenaties everyone most friendly
Didnt have tea making facilities inthe rooms so you could have a cuppa when waking in the morning this would be most welcome to all
The hotel has an excellent location, one of the best outlooks in Albafeira. The rocamar is quiet and competent, one or two staff members do let them down a little. Easy access to the lovely beach and town, this location will not dissappoint anyone.
We were given a room on the third floor where the window looked out onto the sun-deck and pool area at head height, very strange when you open your curtains and a fellow guest is sunbathing directly the other side of the window. We did not really want a room where we could not open the curtains or window so we asked for a different room and were moved to the first floor, this was much better and did have some privacy.
Location,Spot on near to everything. Great staff, Hugo arranged my transport at a good price to Alvor for the evening. All really good and relaxing. All very clean and tidy.
The location at Rocamar Hotel was excellent, right above the beach. The buffet breakfast was good value though incredibly busy.
The rooms were very basic, low quality bath products, extra charge for the safe
close to the fabulous beach of albufeira nice swimming pool on 3rd floor
customers were informed about free wifi sauna and pool not close to each other
